This project consisted of trimming the first floor of an apartment in crown molding.  It was approximately 150 linear feet.   A 3-piece crown molding system was recommended to accommodate the client's request for a grander detail and some technical aspects.  Two walls worth of crown moldings were installed four inches off the wall to allow a margin for ceiling-to-floor window treatments.  2-piece ceiling / wall modules were fabricated in the shop and preassembled with a custom molding cut on the vertical element.  These components were then installed on site and finished with the stock crown moldings.

Prefabricating & assembling 2-piece crown modules w/ cove molding vertical component.
Four 3-piece crown molding systems were produced as samples for the client. This fairly symmetrical example was chosen for the project.
Here is a profile view of the selected 3-piece crown molding system. A cove molding was shaped on the vertical component to echo the upper molded area of the stock crown molding resulting in a symmetrical effect top to bottom.
Laying out / installing an inside corner with 2-piece modules. Both runs have been mounted four inches off each wall to leave room for ceiling-to-floor window curtains. The moldings at the inside corner have been coped and a scarf joint utilized at the end of a twelve foot run.
